Farm Safety

Safety has always been a priority at our farm and we strive to keep the cutting areas safe and attractive. The Georgia State Legislature has taken note of the matter of responsibility for farm safety at the many pick-your-own, choose-and-cut, and similar farm operations throughout the state and has adopted legislation concerning this matter. Article 7 of Chapter 14 of title 2 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated states: “Under Georgia law, an owner or operator of a pick-your-own farm operation is not liable for an injury to or including death of a participant from the inherent risks of harvesting agricultural products.” We are required to post this notice at the entrance of our farm.
So please remember that you will be entering a working farm and be aware that safety hazards are present on farms.

  • Sticks, stones, and uneven ground are part of the natural terrain.

  • Little tree stumps are created with the cutting of each tree and are a part of the terrain on choose-and-cut farms. Please cut your tree close to the ground to ensure a handle to mount your tree in a stand and to lessen the height of stumps in the field.

  • Our little bow saws are sharp and our workers have been instructed to always give the saw to an adult and never to a child.

  • We have treated our fields for fire ants but they move back from untreated areas. Always be aware of fire ants and watch your children closely to keep them away from fire ant mounds.
